Rabat inaugurates the largest ice hockey rink in Africa
National Agency of Public Facilities (ANEP) recently initiated procedures for the creation of a unique sports facility in Rabat with an estimated budget of 246 Million Dirhams. Their project proposes creating an innovative sports hall incorporating not only an ice rink but a host of additional amenities suitable both professional athletes and members of the general public alike.
Architectural and technical designs of this ambitious structure were entrusted to world-renowned experts: Archi team Partners firm, Diagonale Management design office and Socotec Maroc control office – together guaranteeing development that conforms to international standards while meeting expectations from an eager population seeking new sporting adventures.
At 16,190m2, this sports hall will cover an area of 16,190 m2. Of particular note will be its 2524-square metre ice rink – Africa’s largest with 1738 square meters of surface area! Furthermore, spaces have also been provided to ensure visitor and athlete comfort and safety such as stands, cafeterias, changing rooms and technical areas.
Under construction for 18 months, this sports complex will not only open new opportunities for Moroccan ice hockey fans but will benefit other sporting disciplines as a multipurpose space.
Beyond its sporting importance, this achievement marks an invitation for Africans to discover and practice ice hockey – until now relatively uncommon across Africa.
