AGADIR TRANSPORTATION MODERN EXTENSIVE FREQUENT
INTRODUCTION
every year thousands of tourists flock to Agadir every year to enjoy the city’s exceptional setting. According to the latest figures from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Agadir Souss-Massa, the number of tourists has increased over the last 8 months. From the Airport to the city center, from the Crocoparc by making a detour via the souk El Had, Agadir has various means of transport to discover the city, which I will detail in this article, so follow the guide!
AGADIR TRANSPORTATION : TRAVEL BY BUS
Are you planning to do activities in Agadir with your children, but you don’t have transportation? In this case, the bus remains the lowest-cost means of transport.
Urban buses are managed by the company Alsa, which has a fleet of 206 buses.
The company operates 40 lines, and its vehicles cover a distance of 50,000 km on average every day. Consequently, these buses cross all the districts of Agadir, including even the most remote ones.
A bus ticket costs 4 Dh for adults; however, the place is free for children under 6 years old. After your payment,
the driver will issue you a receipt. Remember to keep it for the duration of your journey, as buses are subject to regular checks.
Furthermore, if you plan to travel by bus regularly during your stay in Agadir, there is an economical card available that can be used for the whole family.
This is the Ikhlas magnetic card, which will cost you 15 DH. The card is recharged depending on the number of journeys you plan to make and offers a 17% reduction on the price of the ticket.
Indeed, buses are not what they used to be; there has been significant progress in this regard. In the city of Agadir, there are about 40 bus lines.
AGADIR TRANSPORTATION : TAXIS
Agadir taxis are widely used by the local population and represent a fairly economical way to get around. As is the case everywhere in Morocco,
it is important to distinguish between the small red/orange taxis, which only take a maximum of 3 passengers and cover only short distances within the same town,
And the large white taxis, which have a capacity of 6 seats.
When you take a red taxi, you pay for the fare, not the place. For example, if you are a group of three people, you will only pay the price of one ride.
However, for more than 3 people, you will need to call a second taxi.
In general, the vehicle has a meter which will display a 2 DH base fare. During the day, it costs 5 to 6 DH on average for a trip, whereas at night, it costs 10 DH (as a 50% legal increase must be expected).
Taxis only travel in urban areas and are not allowed to travel long distances or leave the city of Agadir.
As a tip, bring some small change to make payment easier and ensure the taxi has a working meter.
In contrast to the small red taxis, which only travel within Agadir, grand taxis can travel long distances and connect Agadir to other cities.
These taxis, which are white in color and generally of the Mercedes brand, do not have a meter on board.
They can carry up to 6 passengers. Regardless of the trip requested, you must first agree on the price.
To find a large taxi, you have to go to the “taxi square,” which is their starting point.
For instance, a transfer from Al Massira Agadir airport to the city center will cost you, on average, 200 dirhams.
AGADIR TRANSPORTATION : BIG BUS
The Big bus connects large cities to each other when they are not served by the rail network.
Morocco has several bus stations.
There are several bus companies, but the main ones remain Supratours, which is a subsidiary of ONCF and CTM.
You will find their offices in the Al Massira bus station (Boulevard Abderrahim Bouabid).
The vehicles are air-conditioned and quite comfortable. To give you an idea, a bus trip from Agadir to Marrackech will cost you 115 dh on average with the CTM agency.
AGADIR TRANSPORTATION : RENT A BICYCLE
To discover Agadir in its smallest nooks and crannies, cycling proves to be an excellent economical, ecological and pleasant alternative.
Self-service bicycle rentals are flourishing in the city and allow you to appreciate Agadir at your own pace.
It is in some ways an excellent way to combine business with pleasure.
Basklit, pronounced Bashklit and meaning bike in amazing language, is a bike rental concept
The bikes are equipped with GPS which will allow you to find your way more easily.
There are currently 2 stations, one located at the Théâtre de la Verdure and the second on Place Al Amal.
There you will find an ambassador who will welcome you from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
to give you a bike equipped with GPS and an unlock code.
The rental amount is 30 dh per day (introductory price), a ridiculous price for strolling through the streets of the city.
AGADIR TRANSPORTATION : RENT A CAR
For a question of independence and tranquility, some vacationers will opt for vehicle rental.
This choice is especially very profitable if you are a group of people sharing the costs.
There are quite a few car and tourist vehicle rental agencies in the city of Agadir.
Here again, you will need to find out about the reputation of the agency and spread word of mouth before renting a car.
Some agencies have several branches and are present in other cities.
This is ideal if your arrival city is different from your departure city.
For example, if you land in Agadir and your return flight will be at Menara airport in Marrakech,
it is entirely possible to return your rental car in Marrakech.
Once again, you will have to choose a good agency that offers this alternative.
CONCLUSION
The Agadir transportation infrastructure is vital to support the city’s expanding economy, tourism and the local mobility demands. Agadir’s infrastructure for transportation comprises the road network including public buses, taxis as well as a close airport that all allow for the efficient movement of goods and people efficiently. Even though Agadir is making significant progress in enhancing its transportation options however, there is still room to improve, especially when it comes to improving public transport and lessening the amount of traffic. With continued investments along with strategic plans, the Agadir’s transport system will become more sustainable, efficient and able to meet the needs of residents and tourists.
